If it never does, that's a load more treading water and earnest endeavor from the devs for nothing. But as long as they're working towards it, design has to be hooked to that becoming a reality. If they decide to dump that objective, then fine. Just all the stuff that rolls the dice massively again for designers and coders. Which would involve the server boundaries being variable, mad stuff like trying to shoot ballistics across the boundaries (rather than hitscan weapons etcetera, which might be slightly easier). I'm just talking about Dynamic Server Meshing there. Given the delays I mentioned in my first post. I'd just say they've flipped and flopped so much on what the end game is for networking, and related game design, that they've pushed themselves into what looks a lot like dev hell. I'm definitely not saying they're not trying. And any current design and engineering work that's been done on the basis that it will happen, will probably have to be binned. None of that, nor many other Chris Roberts dreams, are happening.
Forget massive player counts in the same location.
#Star citizen server status full
Forget multiple player capital ships full of scampering NPCs taking on AI capital ships in classic battles. All of this time will have been wasted, with design and engineering teams unable to proceed on core gameplay functions because the networking architecture is nothing but a wobbling scaffold.įorget the sniper weapons shooting across servers with bullet drop and wind effects.
It's far more likely they'll be forced to drop back to some basic form of instancing. Now they're just waiting for one tiny step towards it, iCache, which was supposed to come in mid 2020. (It was scheduled for the end of 2018, then Erin Roberts said it was coming in 2019). It probably won't happen and it's already several years late. It definitely is.ĬIG are spinning their wheels while they try and reach the promised land of Server Meshing. Ignore the guys who say this isn't an issue. if it cant be corrected you crash from the server or the server itself crashes. and all a server can do is try to correct it. Their are many number of bugs outside of just having the infrastructure that can mess you server wise and these bugs often come from a clients actions or hardware. Or in other cases the client suffers, since you can tell a server I talked to NPC to accept a mission the Server cant find said mission data and then what your client believes is true and what the server believes is true is different and as such you as a client can be have server issues. you talk to say a NPC and the Sever cant find the mission data, well it freaks out the conversation stalls and the server suffers stability wise. In game terms you could have the best servers on the planet the best set up unlimited data and still run into many stability issues. because it's a conversation where both sides can run into issues getting off topic or having a language barrier as a example. It doesn't stop bugs and other issues popping up. and improved hardware just reduces bottlenecks happening within that conversation. Not to mention many bugs we blame on the server can come from a client side issue the server end cant really do anything about.Ī server isn't like a foundation you place everything upon and just having a bigger better foundation can hold more, a server is constantly talking with clients. Not good.CIG are working on it, but do keep in mind servers do suffer from bugs and issues the same as any client does. Because of them, it's taken me two days but I've finally managed to recoup some of my aUEC almost to the level I started with.
I'm eager to play and Lorville is amazing but these stupid, silly bugs are just doing my head in.
#Star citizen server status Patch
Is this a bug with pads designated 07 or what? So far this patch is frustrating the heck out of me. A different server and this time the console reported my ship at Pad B07. When I got there, there was no ship to be seen.
However when I went to get my ship for another run, the ship retrieval console reported that my ship was at Landing Pad D07. After a couple more attempts it finally worked and I managed to sell my cargo. At the trading console at admin the game crashed when I clicked the 'Use' button. I loaded up with scrap and flew to Olisar. Now having got my truck back I wanted to recoup some of the money I lost previously. This time it worked although I had to retrieve it by filing an insurance claim. Well I finally managed to get my Freelancer back by going to Lorville Teasa Spaceport and using a console there. It looks like I'll just have to wait for the next patch. I've also tried going to other ports and retrieving my ship from another console but still no success. Thanks macgivre, but I've already tried that and still have the issue.
